3 years after rotator cuff surgery, I still have issues with pain, inflammation and arthritis. The problem with heating pads is there is no way to put the heat exactly where it needs to be. This brace/pad delivers the heat EXACTLY where it needs to go, and not on your neck and back as well. The battery option is nice if you don't want to be tethered to the power cord and have to take it off to go to the bathroom or go get something from the fridge. It's soooo soothing. I've had reoccurring Calcific Tendinitis for over 4 years.I've used a regular heating pad but it was difficult to situate on the shoulder where the pain was so I found this and decided to give it a try. I'm glad I did. It obviously has limited use. You can put it on either shoulder, and probably if you bent your leg just right maybe use it on your knees. I just needed it for my right shoulder. I have been wearing mine UNDER my shirt (or without a shirt) and it gets plenty hot enough. As for people complaining that the heat can't be directed to a specific location on the shoulder, that's not completely true because you can move the pad around to some extent, but you really don't need to with shoulder pain because the heat radiates throughout the shoulder area, even if the heating element isn't in direct contact with the location of your pain. Pretty much the same with the vibration, if one part of your shoulder feels the vibration, the whole joint is being vibrated (though the vibration is pretty mild).
